Last week, we were divided into some small groups and we discussed one topic "the moral dilemma". In the story, "I" was forced to make a hard choice in a very serious situation. "I" have a wife and an 18-year-old son. When we are at the airport getting ready to head home, a sniffer dog stops at my son's bag and begins to get a bit more active. The armed officer asks "Whose bag is this?" My son looks a little nervous. I know that he has smoked a little marijuana in his time. I see my wife in the corner of my eye and she is about to step forward and claim it as her own. What would I say in this case?
After I read the story, I was in a very hard dilemma. First, I thought that the son should say that the bag was his own. He was 18 years old, so he must answer for the question. But, "I" was his father and her husband. With considering the fact, I cannot easily think the son should take responsibility and do his duty. In the group discussion, there were some kinds of ideas. One of them was that "I don't know." However, this was not a good answer to the question. If the officer checked up the bag, it got clear that the bag was the son's. To make matters worse, the officer might blame me for the lie.
If either of "I" and the wife claim it as theirs, the two would end to be blamed for lying, and the son would suffer from a feeling of guilt. If the son claims it as his own, the parents would feel very sorry and so sad for the son's punishment.
I am still in the hard dilemma.

Report #7: The Grade Skipping System
Today, we had a discussion about the introduction of the grade skipping system. There are 4 panel members; an elementary school student, a teacher, a Chinese man, Lee who experienced the grade skipping system, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The moderator gave a suggestion about the introduction of the grade skipping system for elementary and junior high schools in Japan.
First, the teacher took up the lack of communication. She worried about it due to the difference of their age. In fact, Lee did not have a best friend in his class. Then, one idea came up. That is giving students a test of communication skill like other subjects. But, Lee strongly disagreed with the idea because it made no sense. I really agree with Lee. I wonder how we can measure communication skills. I think it is cultivated through our daily lives.
When the discussion lost its heat, Jeff suggested an alternative idea that making a special class for talented students without shifting grade. Instead of introducing the grade skipping system, each of the schools will establish a special class for every grade. In the class, the students can study what they want to learn. I think this idea is better than the introduction of the system. However, I do not agree with it in several points. First, I wonder there are students who are talented enough to skip grade in the same grade. Next, there are too little teachers to teach them. Jeff said that the talented students do not always need learning from teachers, but they need their teacher in charge of the class. And also, it is difficult from an economic viewpoint.
I think there is much room for discussion.

Report #6: Daylight saving time
Last week, I had a discussion about introduction of daylight saving time in Japan. As you know, several other countries, such as the United States, Canada and Australia, have already introduced this system. These countries decided to introduce this daylight saving time due to several merits. First of all, we can get back home 1 hour earlier. This means we can go home before dark, and it leads less traffic accidents and more safety of children. Secondly, it has something good to do with saving energy. In this system, we get up 1 hour earlier with the sun. So, we have another hour of sunlight until setting the sun. Since the hours of sunshine are longer, we can save energy like electric lights and so on.
Although the system has several good merits, it has some demerits at the same time. On the negative side, we need to change all clocks for the system. It is sure that there will be something wrong then. In addition, I have heard that it costs 100.000.000.000 yen to introduce the system in Japan. Next, it will give some damage to our life. We have biological clocks, and it is connected with our life styles. Under this system, our body clocks might get wrong. Then, it does harm to our health, and some students complain of sleepiness in class. There are many problems to be solved before the introduction.
In this discussion, I would like to agree with one idea. That is we do not introduce the system but we move up only time by 1 hour during summer. I mean we change only starting time of everything. Now our first period in this university begins 8:40. We move the starting time up for 7:40. I think it is easy to adapt and to reset the body clocks with starting it on Sunday midnight.

Report #5:Medical Bill Free
Today’s topic was “Free Medical Bill for Citizens”. It was difficult to find a consensus in today’s discussion. I was struggling with the topic. First of all, panel members said agree or disagree with the idea. The discussion was conducted, but before deciding whether we introduce the free medical bill or not, the topic was replaced by the next topic of its financial recourses. Then, I thought that we have lost the way to a consensus. As Jeff said, we should pay attention to what the topic is, and we need to get back on the topic before losing the way. So, I would like to write about my opinion about medical bill.
Now in Japan, if you have your insurance card, you can get medical care at the cost of several percent of the total expense. For example, people from students of elementary schools to age of 69 can get medical care at 30 percent of the whole expense. In addition, senior citizens over 70 years old and infants before entering elementary school need to pay 20 percent of the medical cost. I think this is not so high expenses compared with other countries. In addition, there are several subsidies for the poor who can not pay medical expenses. So, I do not agree with making medical bill for free.

Report #4: Reduce electricity consumption of PUK
Last week, we had a discussion. Its topic was "reduce electricity consumption of PUK".
According to the survey from the general affairs division of PUK, it cost 75.000.000 yen only for electricity consumption in the last year. So, PUK is in bad circumstances, and the general affairs division makes a suggestion that we take the temperature system. After the moderator told the present situation, 4 panels and audience discussed “How reduce electricity consumption of PUK”.
The temperature system gives us limits of the temperature of air conditioners. Under the temperature system, we can not turn up the air conditioners more than 18 degrees C in winter, and in summer we can not turn it down less than 28 degrees C. The general affairs division tells that it has an enough effect for the electricity consumption of this university. However, from the points of view of professors and students, the limited temperature is too extreme to study in classes.
One professor of PUK who is one of the panels suggested that we move the limited temperature lower level, but it is not enough for reducing electricity consumption. So if the limited temperature of the system is not unprotected, each student would have to pay more tuition for PUK.
Finally, we could find a new revolutionary solution, that is, “the ceiling fan”. If we use the ceiling fan, it makes a flow of the air in class room. With the flow of the air, we feel comfortable. It is OK with the limited temperature which the general affairs division suggested, if there is the cycle of the air.
I considered that the consensus was very good to solve the problem of huge electricity consumption of PUK. However, I also thought that there is something small to do by ourselves but they give us a big effect. For example, to turn off the light you do not need, or something. I’d like to support this suggestion, and try to move with what I can do.

Report #3: Cell Phone For Elementary School Students
We discussed a topic of the day "Cell phone for elementary school students". According to the moderator, 30 students died in one year without mobile phones, and if they had their cell phones, they would be helped by calling someone. So, to save such students, the moderator made a suggestion about cell phone for every elementary school student.
The government officer proposed that the government will pay all costs for body of cell phone from income tax. After students get the new cell phone, their parents need to pay only 1.000 yen a month. A woman who is one of the panel members, and has a daughter feels ill at ease about danger in using cell phone. She is anxious about bad Web sites. A woman who works for a mobile phone company offers that the cell phone gave to elementary school students has a restrictive function, that is to say, students cannot surf the Internet with their cell phones. They can only call and send an e-mail to limited numbers and addresses, in other words, their parents, school, the police and a fire station. The mobile phone has GPS (global positioning system). This system will give peace of mind to parents.
During the discussion, we could not reach any consensus because most of the audience was in the opposite position. And the discussion finished with the voice of authority; “It is the parental responsibility.” It was the answer to the topic which nobody could say.
I'd like to support that idea. In Japan, it is said that 30% of elementary students have their cell phone. But the other side of the equation is that 70% of parents disagreed with cell phone for their children. This number is not small. From the present situation, I think the government doesn’t have to give cell phones to all elementary school students. We can save students in another way, such as GPS devices.

Report #2: Making fare for ambulances
Last week, we had a discussion about “Making fare for ambulances”.
The moderator told the present situation of the existing ambulance service. These days, there are more and more mobilizations of ambulances. According to the moderator, a man who called for ambulances instead of taxis for about 50 times was arrested for a petty crime. It is a terrible situation that there is not enough public ambulance service because of such abuses of ambulances. For people who really need an ambulance as quickly as possible, they cannot waste one minute or second for their lives. We have to do our best to find a solution for the burning issue.
The moderator brought an idea that making fare for ambulances. In Australia, citizens must pay 22 dollars for mobilizations of ambulances. They have to pay it once three months, in other words, four times a year. Then the moderator proposed one question that the users of ambulances need to pay 10.000 yen on one mobilization of an ambulance. For a bail-out plan, people who call for ambulances more than 5 times can receive the discount. If you call ambulances more than 5 times, you can get a discount on the total price by 30%.
After the discussion, we could make it to one consensus. It was a little bit expensive to pay 10.000 yen for one call for an ambulance, so it was got reduced to 5.000 yen. And, the payment was limited only to people who abuse the ambulance service. The judgment whether the call for ambulances was right or not was determined by doctor. As the moderator suggested, there was a bail-out plan for people who had chronic illnesses to discount the total price by 30%.
This problem has much to do with our lives. I think this solution would not give help for financial issue, but would finally reduce the abuses of ambulances. I hope there will be less unreasonable call with making fare for ambulances.

Take Care of Yourself!
Yesterday, I felt something ill when I got up. I had a sore throat. I was troubled with a cough and sneezing. And my nose didn't stop running. Completely I had a cold...
I know I should go and see a doctor at once, but I hate a hospital. So, I will get rid of my cold by my own efforts. For example, I will suck a piece of throat candy.
A cold may develop into all kinds of illnesses. Please take care of yourself.

Essay #3: To Me in the Future
What am I doing 20 years later in the future? This is a hard question for me because I can not imagine even what I will be in one year later from now. However, I tried it as much as possible including my wishes.
After 20 years, I will be 40 years old. During the 20 years, I will get a job and be working for some company. If possible, I want to be a civil officer. Maybe I will have another family, in other words, I will get married with a fine man and have some babies. So, I will work in order to make ends meet. I want to have three children, no more and no less.
My family members will also get old. I have an 82-year-old grandmother. I’m sure that she will be lively and go out with me. My father and mother will have retired their jobs and been to many hot springs together. They will have been getting along very well in the future. My little brother, who is 4 years younger than I, is at the age of puberty now and to my sadness he is not kind to me. But he will mellow considerably and we will be able to spend time together like we were children. I have one older brother. Now, he is not in employment after his graduation from his university. I hope he will find a job at that time.
These are only my wishes, but I wish some of them will become true. I would like to keep this essay for 20 years, and after the 20 years I would like to read this again.

Essay #1: A Letter to My Host Family
Dear Host Family
Hello, my name is Ayumi. I am a 20-year-old student majoring English. I like studying English and foreign cultures. I would like to improve my English skills and learn your cultures in the actual life. I also like listening to music and dancing. I danced ballet when I was a little girl. Now, I belong to a dance club in my university and I enjoy dancing. I have 5 family members, my father, mother, two brothers and grandmother. They are so kind to me and I love them. I live with them except for my elder brother who lives alone. And, I have no food allergy I know of. But, I’m not good at food with a too hot taste. I can eat almost anything except hot food.
I’m going to stay with you for about 6 weeks in this summer. This is my second visit to New Zealand. At the first time, I stayed for only a few weeks there. It was too short for me to get used to the new environment and to improve my English much better, because it was my first trip abroad. However, I found that NZ is a wonderful and lovely country to live in and learn. So, I decided to visit NZ again and study English this time. I hope I have a lot of chance to speak with you and to encounter your cultures.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to you. Thank you very much for accepting me into your family. I’m looking forward to meeting you soon.
Sincerely yours.
Ayumi

Angela Aki♪
My favorite singer is Angela Aki. After her debut, I am an enthusiastic fan of "Angie", which is her nickname, and she wants to be called with it by her fans. In this spring, I became a member of her fan club "My Home". The members of "My Home" can earn some privilege. So, I could get a special seat of her live concert.
On July 4Th, I went to her live concert "ANSWER" with my friend. Our seats were the first line of the Kumamoto public hall. She was very very very close to me! It was my first time to go to her live concert, but I could enjoy it very much. I would like to go again. I was glad to see my friend also enjoyed it.

Tottoko Hamu-Taro

When we were elementary school students, we had a password between only my brother and I. My brother made it. That is "Tottoko Hamu-Taro(とっとこハム太郎)". We had to say "Hamu-Taro(ハム太郎)" quickly whenever we heard "Tottoko(とっとこ)" in any context. For example, when you want to record a TV program, you may say "I will record this TV program(この番組とっとこ!)". After you finish hearing the word "Tottoko(とっとこ)", you must say "Hamu-Taro(ハム太郎)" at once.
I want to make this password widely known. How about using this?
Dangerous Sharp Eraser
I have two brothers and they like making fun of me.
One day, my older brother tried to make an eraser sharp.
If this was the eraser, he tried to use one edge and the opposite edge to sharpen it.
A few weeks later, it became as sharp as a knife. He jokingly struck at my little brother with the sharp eraser, and mimicked its sound "Saku". He said that if a knife was really sharp and you struck into one's body, it would sound like that. Next, he also struck at me with it, and said "Busu". In Japanese, "Busu" means an ugly woman. They were laughing at me loudly. I got a little angry.
My brothers always enjoy teasing me; however, I’m getting along with them.

After a while, Oberon finds Puck’s serious mistake and gets angry with him. Oberon makes Puck do things all right. Finally, Puck can put the juice to Lysander’s eyes and he falls in love with Hermia again. So there are two pairs of lovers, Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena. Everything has gone well!
-Impressions-
When I first read this book, it was so complicated that I couldn’t understand whole story. However, after I did the ballet of this play – I played one of Titania’s servants – I could understand the relationship between the characters. But, to tell the truth, there are so many characters that I could not make a good summary and introduce all of them.
It was so funny that it gave me the feeling of being in the story as a character. After I understood the relationship between the characters, I could read it more easily. I really enjoyed my reading.

Book Review #10: Macbeth
-Summary-
Macbeth and Banquo were coming back from the battle, they saw three witches. The witches said to Macbeth that he would be Lord of Cawdor and king. Then they said to Banquo that he would not be king but his children would become kings. At the moment, messengers informed Macbeth the Lord of Cawdor’s rebellion. The king told him to be the new Lord of Cawdor, so there was what witches said. Macbeth expected that he would be king. But his expectation resulted in lots of tragedies...
-Impressions-
I had read Shakespeare’s tragedy play for the first time. It was not so long story that I could read it in one sitting. There were many tragic dramas over and over. The end of story was very striking for me. I would like to read other tragedy stories of Shakespeare, for example King Lear or Othello.

Chin-bin
We will have a school festival in November. At the festival, my dance club will open a store and sell "Chin-bin", that is a traditional crepe in Okinawa. It has a brown-sugar taste.
My friends and I made trial models toward the festival. It was so easy and taste very good! First, we mixed a bag of "Chin-bin Mix" and water. Second, we roasted a ladleful of the mixture with an electrical hot plate. After we cooked both sides of it, we ate it with a scoop of ice cream. It was delicious, but it was inconvenient to eat because the ice cream melted soon. Next, we ate it with some pieces of chocolate. It was delicious, too! The chocolate melted a little with a hot crepe because it was fresh-baked. We decided to sell the "Chin-bin" with chocolate.

A Day at the Beach
It was a beautiful day at the beach. The sun was shining. Some people were swimming. Some people were playing volleyball. Some people were throwing a Frisbee with a dog. Some people were surfing. Some people were drinking beer. Everyone was having a good time. Suddenly a strange humming began. It got louder and louder and louder. Suddenly it stopped. A monster appeared. He pointed at a girl with a striped shirt. She was afraid. She tried to run away. The monster said "Stop." She stopped. The monster said "Come here." She came. The monster pointed at a boy with a blue shirt. He was afraid, and tried to run away. The monster said "Stop." He stopped. The monster said "Come here." He came. The monster pointed at a girl with a red tops. She was afraid, and tried to run away. The monster said "Stop." She stopped. The monster said "Come here." She came. Suddenly a strange humming began. It got louder and louder and louder. A monster and three people made a circle. They disappeared.
Those who were at the beach confused. A brave girl said that let's go to help them. All the people agreed with her. Then strange humming began. It was heard from a cave near the beach. They went into the cave. After a while, they found a faint light. They advanced toward the light, and there was a monster village. Suddenly monsters appeared and took them to a park. There were the three people and the monster which had appeared at the beach. They were dancing with the strange humming delightfully. One of the three people noticed the people who came from the beach, and invited them to join the dance. The monster asked "Shall we dance?" They were astonished, but decided to dance with them. They enjoyed dancing with strange humming. After a long time, they felt tired and fell asleep. When they got up, they were at the beach. No one could tell it was a dream or a reality.

It was so interesting that I could not read this book without pounding hearts. So, I finished reading this book soon. The title shows the outline of the story, but that’s not all. There were a lot of complicated feelings among its characters. I really enjoyed reading this book.

Book Review #7: Different Worlds
-Summary-
Samantha was like any other teenage girl except she was born deaf. Sam was in love with Jim and they were very happy. They lived in different worlds because she was deaf, and he was not. But it was not important.
One day, Jim’s ex-girlfriend Lauren came to see Sam and said that Jim played drums in a band. She did not know that, and she got afraid that he would leave her because she could not listen to his music.
However, Jim told her that he really wanted to be with her and she was very good for him. Then he taught her to play drums, and she could feel the vibration from the drums to her hands.

Last week, I read “Next Door to Love” which was written by the same author as this book. That’s why I decided to read this book.
It was so fun that I could have read through the book so quickly. I was glad because Sam could be with Jim happily ever after with the help of her mother and Ron.

Chicken
I dyed my hair tonight. This was my second time to dye my hair.
When I first dyed my hair about a month ago, I chose a dark color because I was scared of dying my hair too light; I was a CHICKEN. At the next day after I dyed, I went to school. I expected to be said that I dyed my hair by all my friends. However, no one noticed my hair color change at all. I was very sad, and I decided to dye my hair lighter.
This time I chose a lighter color than before. And from experience with the last time, at the previous day I announced to my friends that I would dye my hair lighter. At that night I dyed my hair with fear of dying too light.
The next day, I went to school with expectations. But my friend who I had announced the previous day said that I didn't dye my hair though I had told. After I told about my dying my hair, she said that I was a real CHICKEN. I was very sad again...

The Athletic Meet
Sunday morning, I was shaken out of bed because a boy of my relatives had an athletic meet at his elementary school. He is in the first grade and he is the first great-grandchild of my grandmother. So, I went to the athletic meet with my grandmother.
It was held at Midori-ga-oka elementary school in Arao. I did not know where the school was, so I drove there with my grandma's guidance. Although I was a little worried whether we could make it there, we finally got there with a roundabout route.
When we arrived most of morning programs were finished. We took lunch together. It was delicious! In the afternoon, he danced very well. After all programs, his team lost... However, he did a good job! I gave him a snack as a treat. He delightfully received it, and thanked me.

Champon at Midinight
On Sunday evening, I had a part-time job at Miami. There was a large amount of customers that night. So we had no time to eat supper during the working time.
After the part-time job, owner said that let's go to eat out UDON. When we arrived at an UDON shop, there were so many customers that we couldn't eat UDON soon. So, we moved to the next. There was a CHAMPON shop. It was 12 o'clock of midnight. We ate CHAMPON at midnight. It was delicious, but I think it is not healthy for me to eat CHAMPON at midnight. I am afraid of gaining weight.
I decided to try to lose weight since today!

Book Review #6: The Complete Life of John Hopkins
-Summary-
What are the most important things in life? You have to fall in love. You have to go to war. You have to be poor. Nobody’s life is complete without these three things. John Hopkins learned this in a very short time.
In the Big City, important things happen, and they happen quietly.
John Hopkins was the same as a thousand other men. Mrs. Hopkins was the same as a thousand other women. They lived in an apartment that was the same as a thousand other apartments in the Big City. There was no love or war in this apartment, and they weren’t poor.
But one night, the life of John Hopkins became complete.
-Impressions-
When I read this book for the first time, I couldn’t understand a relation between the opening and the ending. But, after I read again and again, I found there were three important things such as a little war, falling in love with a young woman and poverty. It was very interesting that the opening was connected to the ending. I really enjoyed reading this story.

Body Odor...
When I was talking about ages with my friends, one of my friends told me that after getting 20 years old, people start to produce body odors, that is "Karei-syu" in Japanese. I was quite shocked by her saying. On this September, I will have been 21 years old. So, it means that I have been producing body odor for one year. After I heard it, I hurried to buy a perfume.
Dance at Tera Bal
On May 24Th, I danced on the stage of Terra Bal driving school. There were so many specters in front of the stage. I felt very nervous... ;( As I was expected, I made a mistake in dancing because of a lack of practice. But I was very excited during dancing on the stage. I love dancing!
After dancing, I went to Shimo-tori to take pictures by "Pri-Clu" with the club members. First, I took it with 17 people at the same time. It was hot in the machine. And I took picture with the members of my team. I select the picture for a wallpaper of my cellphone.
Next we went to a Chinese restaurant "Ko-Ran-Tei". I ate a "Su-Buta" set meal. It was very good! I ate it completely.
We wanted to talk much more, we moved to a cafe. From 7 to the closing time, we talked a lot about our 'do DAC'. I wanted to be with them much much more.
I really enjoyed today. I'd like to make my dancing life full.

I Love Shopping!
Shopping is one of my stress relief methods. On Monday, I went shopping with my friend. I bought a colorful cloth and a pair of black sandals. I took a big fancy to them.
However, there is one problem before me, that is my mother. My mother always says that I have too much clothes to keep. When I come back home with new clothes, my mother gets angry. So, I came back home with hiding the clothes. Fortunately, my mother did not know that I bought new clothes. I am looking forward to wearing the new ones, but at the same time I also feel fear of my mother knowing that I bought them.

Twilight
On April 12Th, I went out to a movie with my friends. We watched "Twilight" which was about a love between a girl and a vampire. It was so exciting, and it became my favorite movie.
One day on May, I went to TSUTAYA to kill some time. When I was looking around in the store, I found the books "Twilight" at a corner of books which were made into movies. There were two-volumes of "Twilight" and "Twilight Ⅱ". At a short time I decided to buy all of them, that is, I did "OTONA-GAI".
Now I carry around the book all the time and read it during my free time. I have read through two of them in a week. I really enjoy reading them!

In Class #5: Morning and Evening Habits
We talked about our morning and evening habits in the class.
I talked in a threesome, so I'd like to write interviews of Mina and Airi.
There are some similarities between Mina and Airi. First they go to bed at 1:00 AM. Before bed, Mina surfs the Internet by her mobile phone, drys her hair and brushes her teeth. And Airi has a good stretch and listens to music before bed.
In the morning, they usually get up at 7:00 AM. Mina washes her face, eats a breakfast, applies makeup, puts on clothes and brushes her teeth. While Airi first drinks a glass of water and has a good stretch again.
I usually go to bed at 1 or 2 AM. Before bed, I dry my hair and drink water. During drying my hair, I think about the next day's clothes. While brushing my teeth, I check my class schedule of the next day and I have my clothes ready to wear in the next morning. I am trying to use time wisely but I have always sit up late. I am a chronic sleepy person.

In Class #4: Blood Type and Zodiac Sign
Today's topic was about our blood types and zodiac signs.
My blood type is AB. A person who is my blood type is someone unique who has a sense of humor. We try to be liked by everyone but we also like being alone. I am sure that we have something of the genius in one.
I am a Libra. That symbol means a balance or scales. I think a person of this sign is one who makes equal whatever their age, sex or importance, etc.
I talked with Kazuyoshi about this topic. His blood type is A. He says that those whose blood types are A are serious, steady and old-fashioned. They are interested in something which usually others are not interested in.
He is a Pisces. The symbol is fish. According to what he said, someone who is a Pisces is sensitive and mysterious.

Book Review #5: The Borrowers
-Summary-
“Borrowers” are very small and very clever. They only borrow, not steal, things they must have from human beings.
The lender family are human beings and the Clock family are “Borrowers”. They live happily together in an old house.
One day, Mr. Potter, a lawyer comes to insist on his right to pull down the house. He says the owner of the house Aunt Mary, who is Mrs. Lender’s sister, didn’t write a letter. So, Mr. Potter wants to pull down the house in order to build a new flat.
Arrietty Clock decides to keep Mr. Potter away from the house. Thanks to thousands of borrowers, finally Mr. Potter gives up. The lender and the Clock can get back the house again!
-Impressions-
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was interesting and exciting, especially when Mr. Potter put a waste paper basket over the borrowers.
There are several stories about these very small people. When I was a high school student, I have seen one of these stories on video. I found some differences between them. I’d like to read or see other stories about the borrowers.

Dance! Dance! Dance!
I belong to the dance club at PUK. I like dancing because I have been dancing since my childhood.
My first experience of dancing was ballet when I was 4 years old. Since then I had been dancing ballet for about 12 years. After ballet, I did jazz dance for about two years. And now, I'm challenging hip-hop dance.
I'm not good at dancing hip hop, but I love dancing! So, I want to keep on dancing until I become an old woman.

Book Review #4:The Girl at the Window
-Summary-
In 1815, an artist was drawing a picture of a girl at the window. The girl's name was Grace and she was pregnant with a girl. Grace called the baby Mary. When she gave birth to her baby Mary, women took Mary away from Grace because the baby didn't have a father. Grace cried and screamed for her Mary. She was waiting for her baby.
In 2001, Sue who had a baby Sammy moved to the old house which Grace had lived in. There was a picture in the room. There was a girl at a window, so it was Grace. Summy got interested in the picture in Summy's room. Grace in the picture came to think Summy was her baby.
Before reading this book, I thought the story would be like to the Coppelia in ballet. But the story was quite different from what I thought. It was a horror story... To tell the truth, I did not like this story.

Essay #2: How to Improve PUK
I have been a student at the Prefectural University of Kumamoto for a year. Through my college life in PUK, I found several things which I want PUK to improve. I’d like to write about two things which I want to change the most.
First, I want PUK to establish a convenience store or something in the grounds of the university. There are some convenience stores near the university, but it is a little bit far to go during a lunch break. You know there is a “MARUZEN” in PUK. However, I am not satisfied with both its business hours and its product lineup. The shop opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. I think it is not useful for the students at PUK. Also, there are few products to choose from. We have a student cafeteria, but it is always too crowded to buy food and eat in. So, MARUZEN should add to its product lineup, especially in regards to food.
Second, I feel it is unfair to students in the faculty of literature. This year, PUK improved only the faculty of administration. I think the education faculties of the faculty of literature, for example the equipment of the language laboratory, need repairing. I want PUK to expand and complete its facilities for the faculty of literature. The building of lecture rooms for the faculty of literature is gloomy and quite old. I’m reluctant to listen to a lecture in such a room.
These are my personal opinions for PUK. Though I know it is hard for PUK to accept our ideas, I would like PUK to listen to them even a little.
Book Review #3: The 18 Penny Goose
-Summary-
It was the spring of 1778 and the American colonies were fighting the War for Independence. British soldiers were only a mile or two away. They were marching toward Letty's house. So, Letty Wright and her family must flee quickly and go over the mountain where they would be safe. They had to go, leaving everything behind even Letty's friend Solomon the gander. Letty knew hungry soldiers took farm animals for food. First she tried to persuade Solomon to hide in the woods for a few days, but he didn't hide. So, she wrote to soldiers that "please do not harm my geese".
Letty and her family stayed with her father's friends for three days. Each evening, she wished on the first star that Solomon would be safe. After the three days, they headed home. The house was not burned but the fences were broken. Worst of all, the geese were gone. They went into the house, and found a letter for Letty from the soldiers. It said that they paid a penny a goose and left the change with the gander. She ran outside and found Solomon in the barn. A leather sack with 18 pennies was tied around his neck.
Letty walked back to the house with her family. Solomon was safe and the soldiers were gone. There were a lot of work to be done.
-Comments-
This book was easy to read and I thought it was suitable for book reviews. I was glad that Solomon was safe. The soldiers read Letty's letter and did not eat the gander Solomon. I know there is no choice that the hungry soldiers often take farm animals for food. However, I hoped the soldiers not to have broken the fences and eaten other geese. Anyway, it is good for the soldiers to pay the change for the geese. I think Letty is a good girl, so the soldiers were influenced by her honest heart.

Kasumi's Birthday Party

Although May 4Th was Kasumi's 20Th birthday, we couldn't have a party for her on the day. We had a birthday party on May 11Th. There were 8 people including Kasumi at the party. We went to Kitchen [Ku:] near the City Hall of Kumamoto city. I have been there once when I had a party with my cousins, and its food and drink were very good. So, I suggested there for Kasumi's birthday party. I was glad because my friends were satisfied with the dishes. I would like to go there again with my friends who couldn't come together on the day. I'm sure that she will like it too.
Mother's Day

May 10Th was Mother's Day. I had plan to have a lunch together at Miami. However, my mother went out to the sports festival of my little brother's high school with my father. So, I took them up to Miami during lunch time.
Miami was crowded with a lot of customers, so we had to wait a while to be seated. After we got seats, we ordered pilafs, pasta and pizza. During a waiting time, I gave my mother the preserved flower which I bought yesterday. She received it with delight and said thank you. When we was taking pictures of the gift, the meal was served. They were all delicious. We could enjoy the lunch time!
Now, the preserved flower is on my mother's dresser. I'm happy to hear that because she can see it everyday!
Fateful Encounter
I went to buy a gift for my mother by myself. I could find a beautiful preserved flower at TURUYA.
After shopping, I went to a cafe to have a cup of tea. When I was waiting in line, I felt a tap on the shoulder. I turned around in surprise, and there was Mai with a smile. We had have no plan to meet, but I could meet her by chance. We had a coffee break together and talked a lot. I enjoyed spending time with Mai!
It was the fateful encounter, wasn't it?

In Class #3: Friends
Today's talking topic was our friends.
First, we talked in pairs and my partner was Kazuyoshi. He introduced his best friend Yuki. He is cool and handsome with big eyes and dark skin. Their parents had known each other, so they became friends. Kazuyoshi said that he is a selfish and talkative boy, and likes chatting with girls. They both belonged to the brass band club in theur school. Yuki played the clarinet well.
Next, I talked with Miyo and exchanged each interviews. Miyo introduced her friend Mai. She is a 25-year-old woman with big eyes and black-long hair. She is taller than Miyo, 185 centimeters tall! They have the same part-time job at a cram school. Miyo said that Mai was very kind to her and very funny. She likes alcohol.
In class, I introduced my best friend Ayami to my partners. Ayami is the same age as me. She is very cute, and has a slender figure but also has a double chin. Her most attractive feature is her jointless finger. Her annular finger of the left hand has no top joint. It is good for her to be talkative and funny because she works for Docomo. I met her when we were elementary school students. We belonged to the basket ball club and played it together. There is always Ayami in my memories since a elementary school student. Now, we are not in the same environment; she is a Docomo staff and I am a college student. That makes us to see not very often. But it is no problem for us. I am sure that we will be the best friends forever and ever.

Movie

Today was my only holiday during the golden week holidays because I had my part-time job.
I had no plan for today before my friend asked me to go to a movie. I was happy to get e-mail about today's plan and I replied to her soon.
We met in a theater at noon, and had lunch. I ate an omelet containing stir-fried rice, that is 'OMU-RICE' at 'POM-NO-KI'. It was delicious. Fortunately, we could get a glass of orange juice for nothing. But, the orange juice was weak. I thought it was orange water.
After the lunch, we saw a movie "The Detective Conan~Chaser in Black~". There was a large audience; almost everybody in the theater was teenagers or their parents. It was very exciting! I could listen to DAIGO's voice. He played one of the important characters.
At the theater, we found some curious unscreened movies. So, I promised my friends to see them together. I cannot wait the movies!

Part-Time Job
You know, I have my part-time job at the restaurant Miami. I usually work from 6 p.m. to midnight, 4 times a week.
This golden week holidays, I worked from May 1 to 5; almost every day. I think I have spend much time with my coworkers than with my family. Sometimes, I dislike holidays because my job keeps me very busy. However, it is a very challenging work and I like it.

This year, Miami hired some employees. I'm one of the senior members in Miami, so I have to teach them to work. Because it is my first time to teach somebody, I feel hard and find that I'm not suited for a teacher or something...
While I complain, I'm going to keep on working for Miami until my graduation.
Please come to Miami!!!
Book Review #2: From the Heart
I read "From the Heart" this week.
-Summary-
Anna was a new student at Oxford University. When she arrived in Oxford, she met Selim, and they became good friends. But Selim was not English, and living in a different country was not easy for him. Anna tried to help him – but she knew that her father was not going to like it because he did not like foreigners. Finally, her father came to allow her to marry him. When Selim gave a marriage ring to her, he said that “it comes from me, from the heart.”
-Comments-
It was a heartwarming story. Especially I liked the scene of the meeting of Anna and Selim. He helped her from a drunk man with a gentle appearance. I was emphasizing with Anna during reading the book. Also, this was easy to read because the book had notes by the story. So, I could read through easily.

Welcome Back!

We took a lunch at MIAMI where I had my part-time job. She ate a chicken pilaf, and I ate a 'TAMADORI', in other words, 'TAMAGO-TO-HORENSO-NO-DORIA' . It was delicious!
After lunch, we went to SHIMAMURA to kill time. There were a lot of goods with 'ANSHIN-KAKAKU'. I wanted to buy a white skirt, but I controlled myself not to buy it. Because my mother gets angry whenever I buy new clothes. She says that I have too much clothes. I bought only a scarf and socks.
Today's main event! We went ANTIQUE in Arao. It is famous for the variety of its parfaits. We took a long time to choose only one from the list. We has chosen CHOCO-BANANA parfait and MILK-TEA parfait. Both were very delicious! I want to go there again and eat other parfaits.
I enjoyed a pleasant time with my best friend. I promised that I would go to Hiroshima next time. I'm looking forward to seeing her soon.
Hot Springs in HIRAYAMA
On May 3, I went to HIRAYAMA ONSEN with my relatives; my father , mother, grandmother, aunt and her grandchildren.
It took half an hour to get there by car. There were a lot of visitors from every region of the country. I heard that HIRAYAMA ONSEN was the third most popular sightseeing area of hot springs in Japan.
We went to 'HANA-NO-BANDAI' which sat on hill. It was hard to find a parking lot because of many cars. It was raining a little bit but the spa overflowed with customers.
I could have a relaxing time and heal my tired body from a part-time job. After my bath, I ate an ice cream. It was so delicious because I felt flushed with the hot spa.
Next time, I would like to go there with my friends!

Book Review #1: Helen Keller
I read "Helen Keller" this week.
Young Helen Keller was blind and deaf because of a high fever.
She lived in the dark and the silence, however, Anne Sullivan who was a wonderful teacher from a special school, taught her how to express her thoughts. Helen discovered a new exciting world.
I knew this story in Japanese, but I had not read this story in English.
So, I can have read the book easier and sooner than I expected.
I can hardly imagine that I am both blind and deaf. I was moved by her courage in the dark.
I would like to emulate her behavior of her positive attitude toward anything new.

"Men-spa"
I have my part-time job as a waitress at a restaurant "Miami".
There are many kinds of food. The restaurant is famous for pizza and pasta.
The most popular pasta is "Mentaiko spaghetti". I love it.
I have a supper there. There are many kinds of staff meals, too.
Sometimes, I have a chance to eat food in the menu.
Yesterday, I ate "Men-spa", that is to say, "Mentaiko spaghetti".
There is little rice for all staffs to eat. So, I could eat fortunately.
It was very delicious!
Today, I also ate "Men-spa". It was delicious, too.
I am happy to eat "Men-spa"even if I have to take it three times a day.

Makeup
I went to a store with my mother and bought some cosmetics.
My mother often gives me advice about my makeup.
She once said that I put too heavy rouge on my cheeks like "OTEMOYAN".
I was shocked and decided to take her advice.
I want to be a pretty girl!!!

We talked about our spring vacation.
First, I talked with Reika about the same memory of the vacation.
I'm living in Tamana, so I guided my friends around the city by car.
Reika, Yukari, Mina and Sachi joined the tour. We ate famous Tamana's Chinese noodles and sweets at a buffet-style restaurant, played bowls and took a foot bath.
I had a pretty good time with them.
Next, I talked with Airi and she told me about Chika's vacation. They went to Green Land in Arao on March 18Th.
I also went to Green Land on March 11Th with my friends. We talked a lot about there.
I found that my classmates build good relationships each other.
