-Summary-
There was a pair of lovers, Lysander and Hermia. Though they are falling love each other, Hermia’s father doesn’t permit her to marry him. The Duke tells her that she must marry Demetrius who is permitted to marry Hermia by her father—or die. So, the couple decides to leave and start a new life. A Hermia’s friend Helena hears the escape plan. Then she tells it to Demetrius because she loves him and wants him to give up his love for Hermia. However, he says he will follow them. That night in a fairyland wood there are four young people and fairies. The king of fairies Oberon and an Oberon’s messenger Puck see Demetrius followed by Helena say coldly “I don’t love you”. Oberon wants Puck to do Helena good with a love-potion flower whose juice can make sleeping people fall in love with the next living creature that they see. Puck leaves and tries to pour the juice into Demetrius’s eyes. But Puck mistakenly puts it in Lysander’s eyes. To make matters worse, he sees Helena at first when he wakes up. After a while, Oberon finds Puck’s serious mistake and gets angry with him. Oberon makes Puck do things all right. Finally, Puck can put the juice to Lysander’s eyes and he falls in love with Hermia again. So there are two pairs of lovers, Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena. Everything has gone well!
-Impressions-
When I first read this book, it was so complicated that I couldn’t understand whole story. However, after I did the ballet of this play – I played one of Titania’s servants – I could understand the relationship between the characters. But, to tell the truth, there are so many characters that I could not make a good summary and introduce all of them.
It was so funny that it gave me the feeling of being in the story as a character. After I understood the relationship between the characters, I could read it more easily. I really enjoyed my reading.
